RESCHEDULE TBD - Big Easy Hand Quilting w/Cynthia Schrader 10:30a-1:30p

Join Cynthia in learning how to "big stitch" quilt by hand. Add texture and design to your quilts for added interest and pizzazz!
Bring a quilt top to work on or just a fat quarter sandwich to practice on.

Following is the supply list for BIG Easy:

  • Basted, pinned or spray basted quilt sandwich (505 is my basting product of choice), preferably with at least one seam.  Consider this a practice piece, not a treasure; however, it could become one.
  • Size 20 or 22 crewel needles (assorted pack is great).  I prefer to avoid DMC brand needles.
  • Thimble, comfortable & sturdy.  I will have several samples to assess; we may want to address those you stock and my preference of Roxanne thimbles. This is a very personal choice yet needed to prevent bleeding and pain when learning.
  • 'Under the Quilt' finger protector such as Thimble-it
  • Rubber needle grabber
  • #5 pearl cotton to coordinate with quilt sandwich

Optional supplies:

ALL ARE IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESSFUL BIG Easy in some format.

  • Small (applique) double curve scissors (Havel or your choice to stock).  I really like the double curve.
  • 12-14" hoop,  I prefer the plastic non-slip kind.  Optional if project is small; better stitches are generally achieved with a hoop but they are also stocked in chain stores.
  • Fabric markers of choice such as a hera marker, mechanical pencils (ceramic 'lead'), other fine tip chalk markers and Frixion 'heat sensitive' pens
  • Thread winder/butterfly or cardstock strips.  I will demonstrate how to make a center pull ball of thread from a skein of pearl cotton.
